Ellis Ink. is the personal site of David A. Ellis, a Toronto based Technologist with over 24 years of professional experience.

As a personal site, its a place for me to rant and rave, share my thoughts, and generally explore the topics I like to explore. In short its what *I* think is cool.

Feel free to look around, perhaps comment on a post if it tickles your fancy. The only thing I ask is you treat this site, its contributors, and its readers with respect and dignity.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about how I built this site, especially given my busy schedule. The reality is I didn’t :). As those that are close to me know I work at home, and have a an extensive inventory of Servers that run Linux, KVM Server, Windows, and OSX.

This site was built using freely available tools, themes and plugins for the WordPress blogging tool.

The tools used:

  • Ubuntu Server OS (a linux Distribution)
  • WordPress 4.1.1
  • MySQL 5.0.54
  • A slightly modified “Vivacity” theme for WordPress
  • The NextGen Gallery Plugin for WordPress (photo gallery functions)
  • MacJournal for content creation
This site, like all good IT projects, leveraged the work of others (freely available) and as a result was completely built out in a matter of hours. If there is sufficient demand, I’ll create a HOWTO.
